On a general day to day basis, some of my main responsibilities include covering an production downtime and ensuring the plant is returned to full working order in a safe and timely manner, General maintenance of machinery and other electrical equipment and plant, liaising with other departments of the company to ensure the safe and proper manufacturing techniques and standards are being utilised and met and completing all training processes needed to qualify and complete my apprenticeship.
During this 4 year apprenticeship I believe I have learned a lot of new skills. I think the main bulk of new learning comes from on the job working. Things can be taught in a classroom for years, but until you are in a real world work environment, it doesnt matter. Skills are learned in work and on a job for me, so an apprenticeship is the perfect environment for me to learn new skills.
I think the programme of learning isnt the most exciting or engaging work i've ever done. A lot of the assignments and tests arent based in real life and this caused me to switch off from some of them and not feel it was possible to excel and take that part of the learning further. some of the work was great and dovetailed nicely with the job, however, some of it didnt and these sections were the most difficult to get through
The programme is quite well structured. I feel like I am comfortable and know where I am through my apprenticeship. I think that I have had a well defined programme with clear goals to achieve and well defined time frames. This makes the work I do day to day easier as I work better when working to a firm and concrete deadline and I can dictate what I complete and feel in control of my learning.
I have felt very well supported throughout my apprenticeship from my employer. Whenever I have needed any support I have been afforded the full complement of company's resources and I feel that the channels of communication have been very open and honest between myself and my employer. I feel comfortable that if I needed or wanted to take my education any further after the apprenticeship, they would try their hardest to accommodate the request.
I have felt very well supported throughout my apprenticeship from my training provider. Whenever I have needed any support I have been afforded the full complement of training provider's resources and I feel that the channels of communication have been very open and honest between myself and my college. I feel comfortable that if I needed or wanted to take my education any further after the apprenticeship, they would try their hardest to accommodate the request.
Without the qualification that I received through my training provider, I would not have been able to be in the work environment and learn the trade. The qualifications that are gained from the training provider teach the basics and give you the tools to get into the work place environment and push on and learn the intricacies of the job role. The tools and basics need to be gained from college to be able to gain further knowledge.

I have worked in quite a few different companies and in different industries and this is the best place I have worked. The people here are the reason I enjoy coming into work every day. We get on and endeavour to do a good job every day. The people in the engineering department are a real cross section of society and there is never a dull moment. They are the smartest workforce I have worked with and will always be on hand if needed.
Premier foods is a large company with a lot of opportunities, it is good to know about all of these different facets of the company as it can help understand why certain processes are in place throughout the business. Working in the food industry, it is imperative that you can demonstrate a tidy and clean workflow during work activities and give examples of working in a pressured environment. Being flexible in work is a good idea as well, as no day is the same as the last.
