  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • I spent three days online with EY for their 2020 business academy. We participated in a range of ice breakers and challenges, as well as listening to a range of speakers talking about different service lines and aspects of their careers. We also received a range of workshops around confidence and writing as well as having the opportunity to ask questions to different panels. We also received tips for our next steps and how we can further apply for EY.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • The experience was very well organised and I knew what I was doing at all times. We were kept up to date through emails and were notified of our daily timetable regularly. I had no questions about the experience I knew what I was expecting each day from the previous days slideshow and the only issues were due to connection and technology not due to the company. I am also very aware of what is going to happen in the future.

  • Each day I leant more about the company’s culture, the energisers were especially helpful in this. Each speaker was very iNformative about the business and I feel I know now a lot more about the business and what it would be like to work there. The panels were very helpful in this and I asked many questions to further help my knowledge and they were very informative in answering all our questions and helping us all.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • I already knew I wanted to work for EY before the experience but this has just further clarified my goals. They were very thorough in explaining the whole application process and what opportunities are available for all students. The panels and guest speakers were very informative and answered many questions about their career paths which further helped me think about mine. All options were covered and I have no further questions after my work experience

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • I had no expenses as I worked from home but every intern was paid. I was paid higher than minimum wage I believe we received around £6.45 an hour for three days work. The company were extremely thorough in checking all my details and receiving information they needed. I received my payslip before the programme started And I had no issues at all receiving any of the money. We started the day at 10 and finished at around 4

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • Throughout the work experience we met many employees from student recruitment as well as from tax and assurance. We had opportunities to ask multiple people in a panel any questions we had as well as having the support from other staff throughout the whole programme. We also had chance to connect with other interns through linked in. We also broke into breakout rooms where we met even more employees and had the chance to network with smaller groups of interns

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I recommend EY as they have been very organised and supportive throughout the work experience. The employees have been nothing but helpful and have been very accommodating considering the programme has taken place in such unprecedented times. they have been very informative and willing to answer all questions posed to them by so many interns. They have clearly gone to a lot of effort to plan the event to give us the most knowledge they possibly could

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would advise other candidates to research the business as well as their desired service line as much as they possibly can before applying to EY. I would also recommend they know their strengths and can actively demonstrate them to others. I would tell them to be themselves and to be completely focused on their motivations and goals. I would also recommend they practice numerical reasoning tests before applying and to have a good knowledge.
