The work experience involved learning more about the Business Apprenticeship EY offer as well as hearing from guest speakers from each service line (I was involved in Assurance). We also completed a case study which included independent work as well as a group discussion afterwards.
I learnt more about the skills needed for an audit process and demonstrated some of these skills in the case study section.
I really enjoyed the experience as it was very engaging and interesting. They included fun activities in between sessions such as kahoot quizzes which kept concentration during the day.
It was very organised; all the guest speakers were on time and each had a well thought out presentation. All the links given to the meetings worked first time and the staff were always on hand to help out if anyone had any technical issues.
We learnt a lot about the culture by hearing from a panel of apprentices who had gone through the same process. We also had Q&A sessions with our regional offices (Newcastle for me) which gave us an insight into what our individual office culture was like.
I was already pretty sure I wanted to do this apprenticeship but this has furthered my decision as I was stuck between this and university. They explained that graduates come in at the same level as apprentices and they had a road of 6/7 years to become a chartered accountant whereas apprentices are qualified in 4.5 years which was a big decision maker for me.
I was paid and there was no reason for reimbursement as the experience was virtual. I received my pay slip the week before the event and the money went into my bank on the Tuesday with the experience finishing on the Wednesday.
Yes, we had a Q&A session with our local office employees and every employee who spoke to us linked their linkedin profile in the chatbox for us to connect with them at a later date.
Yes
I think they are a very professional company who offer a great programme for young people. It allows young people to get a foot in the door quicker than graduates and without the costs of a degree. The culture at EY seems to be very people-orientated which most people wouldn't expect from a large company but all the employees I have spoken to seem content with their job and have received any help they need from EY.
I would say to practice a lot for the application process as the numerical reasoning test is quite challenging. I would also say to prepare a lot for the interview, including researching the company's values and culture as that will help you answer the questions.
