Operations manager - in charge of CORE business. Self fulfilment, assisted selling ect. In charge on the team of colleagues in the store. Deal with banking, KCR, H&S audits.
Yes - learnt many skills around the managing and leading of people
The programme was very enjoyable and it was good to be able to interact with others from different parts of the business (not just Wickes employees but those who work within different business in TP) - the level of work you're expected to submit, all while being a manager, and working 40+ hour weeks was a bit overwhelming at times, but help was there if it was needed.
VERY! all workshops was organised and structured really well. Had regular meetings with my adviser and my line manager.
My line manager changed 3 times during the course of my apprentice - but my original manager who nominated me for the course was always there to support. However, i dint get much time to complete work within work hours, and 90% of my work was done when I was at home, in my own time.
Lots of support - My adviser was great. always replied to emails timely, made sure we had regular meetings/phone calls booked in to catch up with. Also, many of those running the workshops would make it clear that we could email them for help/advice if we needed it. When I did this they always replied as soon as they could and offered really good advice.
I was promoted to manager while I was still completing my apprentiship, and everything I learnt each week definatley helped me to become a better leader - I was able to use the skills I was learning, in real time, and see for myself just how they worked.
As a region we often hold Charity events (pre covid) where you can get involved with sport activities ect

Having worked at Wickes for 6 years, starting as a part time till operator while at university, I have seen the company and Travis Perkins go through many changes - each time they have done so to create a stronger and more inclusive working environment. I feel lucky to work for a business that has such a strong passion for equality and their ethos of helping and supporting each other.
