The day to day running of the transport for Keyline Braintree. This includes, WTD, Spot checks, vehicle maintenance, FLT, Drivers infringements, providing relevant training course. Keeping the branch transport compliant, sign off defect check sheets. I am a HGV and FLT relief driver. I plan loads for the vehicles and print off delivery notes. I assist with the sales team and answer the phone and take orders if they are busy. I do daily checks for the fire exits and monthly checks on the fire extinguishers while ensuring emergency lighting is working.
New management skills to help me develop towards my goal of transport manager / fleet team. I have learnt on different ways of working and how to prioritise. My communication skills have improved not only verbally, but written and non verbal. I know about different insights on people and how they work and best way to approach and guide them. I learnt on how to do presentations to my branch and also to other sectors of my company.
I love the class I was put in to. The other colleagues were on the same level as myself so it was nice too be able to learn and get the support from them. The classroom sessions were really good. I like the fact of being in a class room and having a teacher talk to you face to face and get some sort of bond so they can help you personally develop. I enjoy doing coursework , so but have work set out for me and having a deadline kept me on my toes. The mentors are all lovely and supported me throughout my programme.
The programme was structured very well. They have a time table for the whole programme so you know what the dates are, This includes classroom training, coursework time frame to when completion of the course is. If you required any help they had support session which they provided us with dates at the start of the course. If you required any help you have many options to go down to resolve any issues, so if you couldn't get hold of your mentor there was always someone who could help.
Travis Perkins owns Keyline who I work for. Both Keyline and Travis fully support myself throughout the course, they are very keen on development for their colleagues. I would need time away form the business at certain times for my course, they didn't stand in my way. If I was fulling behind or needed any information for certain work, They provided this for me. I would need to also time during my working day for my coursework, My employer would make sure I had a office where I wouldn't be disturb.
They were on hand to help and assist myself in any of my quires or if i didn't understand something they explained and gave me the confident that I can do this. With out their support I dont think I would of got the result I did. They are not there to get figures on paper. I had some personal issue during the course and they supported me through this time and as I had fallen behind they went out their way to get me back on track.
I was a HGV driver and now since I have completed my apprenticeship, I have now moved in to the office and become the Transport Coordinator, This role has been spectacle created for myself. My branch management team and regional Director are proud to have me as there first colleges to do an apprenticeship course. With out the course I wouldn't of know on how to manage a team and the responsibility that come with the role
