I am currently a fourth year Electrical/Instrumentation apprentice. This job entails maintaining Electrical/Instrument equipment on the GSK Ulverston site.
Qualifications: National diploma in electrical engineering, NVQ level 3, Higher national certificate in electrical engineering. Internal training: Manual handling training, Asbestos awareness training, Fire extinguisher training, GMP training, Confined space entry, Top man training etc.
I have a keen interest within my work so I thoroughly enjoy it. I enjoy the team that I work in and the constant support and training that they provide me. The apprenticeship has exceeded my expectations and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.
I feel very valued within the company, rewards are given via ERA's (excellence recognition awards) and Good egg awards. We are often in the local news paper for having completed numerous internal and external tasks/projects. I feel very valued within my apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship scheme is now very organised and evertything is sorted for the apprentices before they come on site; this involves inductions, PPE, training schemes and mentors.
All training providers have been more than helpful, they have helped me to expand my knowledge of Electrical/Instrument work both theoretically and practically. The support that they offer is excellent and they are readily available. I enjoy the training that I have recieved through an external training provider thoroughly.
My mentor on site offers outstanding support when needed. He helps guide me through problems and also trains me to the best of his ability. My mentor is more than happy to offer any support that is needed.
My salary package pays well and allows me to pay living costs, travel costs, social costs and holiday costs.
There are many opportunities to help the community this can be through an orange day or through STEM.
