Apprentice Developer Developing applications for iOS devices implementing visual designs - writing code and compiling visual assets in a storyboard to develop applications in the xCode IDE and Objective-C programming language Interacting with designers, testers and other developers to work towards a completed application
I've acheived NVQ Level 3 in IT and Communications Professionals. Level 3 diploma in IT and Telecoms. Have become proficient in the Objective C language, Java and JSF. Have learned web development (HTML, PHP, Javascript) to an intermediate level. Gained improved interpersonal skills through communication with various people on different levels of the hierarchy as well as mentoring others through the 'buddy' scheme
Thoroughly enjoy my programme, the people I work with are great with senior staff being extremely helpful and offering great guidance. Team building and comms events are always fun and engaging.
Appreciation and recognition can sometimes be overlooked and can be overlooked for jobs despite levels of work completed.
Occassional organisation issues between Accenture and the University and at the University itself. Apprentice input regarding can tend to be overlooked.
Due to the fact it is a Foundation Degree, independent study is encouraged. On some modules support is poor due to tutor's competence in the given subject.
Support is generally good. My current manager can be extremely busy recently, so support from him at times could be better, especially since the other developers on the project are all apprentices as well.
The rate received pays much better than most apprenticeships in the 2nd year, which is fantastic. However, I still find myself struggling to pay my rent costs, council tax, travel and bills per month with the amount paid. Some sort of travel/council tax subsidy would be great. I was extremely angry last year (although not at Accenture) that the government offered no council tax or rental support despite the fact I was earning £650 per month and working full-time with the intention of getting a well paid job to pay back into the system. I didnt receive this because I was under 25, which I think is an absolute disgrace, however this is a governent issue and not Accenture.
Great amounts of opportunities to get involved in the Accenture culture and extra-curricular activities. Plenty of team-building events and company events. Volunteering opportuntities are possible and 3 paid volunteering days are offered per year. Plenty of opportunities to allow employees to attend sports matches etc.
Yes
People are great, good support, great perks, high-level apprenticeship allowing apprentices to acquire great qualifications and garner experience in the IT industry to build an excellent foundation for a successful career.
The application process can be a bit slow, so be prepared to wait for between applications submission, telephone interview, assessment day and job offer!
