  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I was working in Audit and Assurance. This involved independently examining accounting and financial records, in my case largely banks, to determine if they're free from material misstatement. This involved carrying out a wide range of testing and supporting documentation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become a lot more familiar with analysing financial statements from real life companies as opposed to this being all theory based at University level.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme is enjoyable as I get to experience a mix of both work life and University student life. The only downside would be sometimes there are large gaps between placements and so you are expected to be able to keep up and build on knowledge from previous placements.

    7/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured well, in that the placements are integrated in to the academic year and so you are still able to fully make use of University holidays and study time. The only downside would be that since there are large gaps between placements, sometimes training can be quite intense once you return in order to get back up to speed with things.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is plenty of support available, from seniors in teams to also having career coaches regularly checking in on you. There is also plenty of support from the University, and check ups on general wellbeing.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is plenty of support provided by seniors of teams, as well as PwC having a wide range of sites and resources to use for on the job training. PwC have also provided us with all study manuals and question banks for our modules free of charge in order to prepare us for our accredited exams which we sit through the University.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have noticed a huge difference in my technical knowledge during my second placement, after having covered a year's worth of new content and exams during University.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Despite being in a pandemic, PwC have regularly sent emails inviting us to remote digital sessions for us to get involved in. These include team socials, fitness sessions, quizzes etc. Before the pandemic, work socials and networks were very common.

    8/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • PwC provides a high level of training, both in terms of the job as well as the support and facilities available to us for our professional exams. This has given me a huge jump start in my career in Accountancy. Even before the pandemic, PwC have always allowed us to work flexibly and remotely whenever there has been a need to do so.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • To not be afraid of joining PwC not having any kind of background in Accounting or Finance. The majority of people I worked with had in fact come from Science related degrees. Wherever you come from, PwC are willing to invest a lot of time in your learning and coaching, but a lot of focus is also required from yourselves.
