I do plenty of different jobs within Iceland, from driving the delivery van, closing the store and opening the store in the morning. When opening the store i have to make sure all tasks are complete and make sure the store is safely for the coming day. When driving the van i make sure very high GDPR standards are set and the shopping is delivered to the customers with care. and when closing on the evening i will make sure to cash up the tills safely with all doors locked and then secure and lock the door for the night.
i have developed and learnt new skills the entire time for the passed 2 years. Everything im doing on a day to day basis is helping me further my career. I have learnt to deal with cash, drive a van and plenty of other retail specific tasks. Before i started my job for Iceland, i never saw myself at 20 years old being able to drive a work van and close and open the store securely. But here i am.
I am thoroughly enjoying the program i am on now as it is allowing me to gain a whole new range of knowledge about the job and improving my skills to that next level. The topics are easy to follow and understand when following the instructions at home by myself, which is certainly great for me with my Dyslexia and Dyspraxia, as that can sometimes completely complicate anything i do on a day to day basis.
As previously mentioned, i feel the program i am current taking part in is very well organised. It has to be well organised for me to be able to follow and i am able to do so with ease. Everything is easily laid out on a plate in front of me, telling me exactly where to find things in a nice clean bold manor, with even very easy to understand images associated with the words.
My employer is giving me as much support as physically possible to them, they help me to know when is a good time to get stuff done and allow me to complete any task needed to be done in store without batting an eyelid. they were the ones who pushed for me to do this after all. if i need any assistance they are always happy to help me as much as they really can.
i receive a lot of support from my training provider, they are only the other side of the phone if i need them, and to get the regular face to face or online meetings to discuss my learning and find out how i am doing really does assist me in my ability to get my work done efficiently . They are constantly giving me easy steps on what to do next to help me in my progression.
oh it helps me to preform better in my role 10 fold. I am gaining a much high appreciation and level of understanding of the things i am doing on a day to day basis, i no longer just do those task but i know why i am doing them to allow me to do them to a much higher slandered. Before hand i was doing them but not to my best ability as i didn't know why
we would usually have social activities within out work group like nights out, bowling, there was even talk of a 5 a side football team. But unfortunately all of that is on hold at the moment whilst we weather out the storm that is corona virus. We used to do plenty and our team as a whole already has a great bond, but we just cant wait to be able to get back out and do it all again when possible.

i would recommend Iceland to a friend for multiple different reasons. I would highly recommend to both work for and shop at Iceland. Their ethics match mine and i get treated very well as a member of staff. Iceland is a good company to work for and to shop at with low prices and high ethics. You get plenty of opportunities for extra hours and there is never a boring day, not one day the same.
The main piece of advice i would give when applying for Iceland, is tell the company the best availability for work you can possibly give, it is looked highly upon when you can do a lot of shift for them straight of the bat, let them know you are willing to work and strive to do the best you can. it is also great to mention that you would stand shoulder to shoulder with the companies ethics and standards
