My role requires me to manage a team of colleagues to achieve key store goals and targets, to take responsibility for the store in the absence of other members of management, and to ensure legal standards and requirements are met during the day-to-day running of the store.
Time management and accuracy have been of paramount importance throughout my employment, as well as standards and processes. I have been given opportunities to grow into a management role, which requires me to learn and adapt my behaviours in regards to communicating to colleagues, etc.
I enjoy the opportunity to develop professionally, with focus on broader skills which can be applied to life at large such as communication and personal development.
I have had no issues with how my programme is structured; It has been well-explained to me, is easy to understand, and has made it clear who I need to contact at any given time about any given topic.
Until recently I feel that the support I have received has been fairly minimal, however, recently these issues have been addressed and behaviours are changing to take a more positive stance.
I have received monthly 1-2-1 meetings with my training provider, which I have found integral to my completion of the qualification thus far. Although all of our meetings have been online, I understand this has been the case due to ongoing current health crises.
I have definitely picked up a number of skills and behaviours which I have tried to apply to my role, although some have landed much better than others. Overall I feel the qualification has helped me fit into the management aspect of my role.
While there definitely used to be a number of extra-curricular events organised amongst our team, there has been a noticeable decline in frequency and participation in recent years.

Whilst I have my issues with Iceland, I feel that on the whole I am comfortable and happy in my role, and with the knowledge that Iceland has taken steps to address some issues which I hold of high importance.
As with most retailers, Iceland has an increasing online presence which has only been accelerated by the Covid pandemic. Therefore, I would suggest a willingness to enter a role involved in the online retail and delivery aspect of the company.
