I’m an electrical apprentice so I’m learning to make and fir the electrical components of helicopters .Within my the first year you are at college completing your level 2 knowledge and competency qualifications. One is practical covering subjects like sheet metal, composites, electrical and a little bit of CAD. Those days are college days and start at 8:30am and end at 5pm.
I have learnt a lot about how business works as well as an abundance of practical skills in several subjects. I have also learnt about aerodynamics, maths, science and a couple of other subjects.
I enjoy my programme a lot , I enjoy the fast pace and high work load as well as the variety in what I do.
It’s structured really well our lessons are done to suit our courses and when on site we are in rotations so that we get a wider variety of experience.
The employer is great, we have as much help as needed from our trancing manager and we even have an occupational health centre on site.
Our training provider is also great and willing to answer questions no explain things in different ways to help us understand.
I think it helps will our roll a lot. It means we get the basic skill sets and understanding for most things our employer does and we then get to expand in our specialist areas.
Yes we have a lot of extra curricular activities. There is the AWASA who do charity fundraisers and apprentice events as well as the sports centre where their are many teams available .
Yes
It’s just such a wide experience and the people are amazing .
Make sure your application is very well written . A lot of people make the mistake of not filling it out properly and it shows a lack of effort.
