  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently my role is to learn and complete the work supplied by the training provider. Due to COVID 19, I participate in online lessons 4 days a week and on the 5th I complete the work set by the training provider. However normally I would attend College 3 days a week for practical work, online lessons would take up 1 day, and I would attend the Leonardo site for the last day of the week.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have gained skills of practical use, such as basic sheet metal skills which are continually being developed, these include how to use specialised tools and how to inspect sheet metal for quality. I have also learnt skills that are essential for the manufacturing of composite components. Including the use of the basic tools required. I have also been taught how to read and understand technical drawings which I was unable to do before.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Greatly, I find the program interesting as well as intellectually stimulating. I find the practical aspect extremely fun and engaging, as hands on learning is an excellent way to learn. The creative nature of the hands on education means that I can often take pride in the work that I have completed. The classroom aspect is also good, the instructors engage with the class which helps with learning the interesting subjects that we are taught.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A good amount, while I am primarily supported by the training provider due to the fact that they are the ones who I see on a day to day basis and they are setting me the work I must complete, Leonardo has made it very clear to us that they are never more than an E-mail away, this and the fact that they communicate with me regularly, does create a feeling of support.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Leonardo to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because I have a sense of pride working there, while it isn’t simple and easy, it isn’t overwhelming. The learning pushes me enough to learn new and important things that are crucial to me performing my job role and duties yet it doesn’t stretch me enough for me to consider myself overworked. Leonardo captures my interest while also giving me the chance to develop my repertoire of skills. I simply enjoy doing what I do.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Leonardo?
  • If you have researched the role and have decided that it is for you then give it your best shot! Leonardo is a great place to work and make a career. Do some research on the company’s history and accomplishments and take on an engineering project such as rebuilding an engine or building a circuit board, this will give you something to talk about during your application process.
