As my role as an aerospace engineer apprentice i usually go into college 3 days a week doing 3 practical subjects these are sheet metal, composites and electrical. As well as this every Thursday we have 6 hours worth of online calls covering the theory of the subjects. However due to coronavirus we can’t go in to do practicals and instead have online calls.
Yes, during the apprenticeship I have learnt countless amounts of new skills ranging from helpful small tips on how to use certain equipment to learning how composite components are manufactured from laying up to being cured in an autoclave.
I enjoy the programme very much. Not just do I enjoy the subject I am learning about but I have also met a lot of new people and made many friends. As well as this the management team at Leonardo’s have proven to be very helpful and supportive.
The programme is well organised however due to the pandemic the programme is not how it would usually be, as we are all learning from online calls, however I can’t wait to get back to the college.
Whenever I have a problem if I contact my supervisor/employer the subject is always looked at and I always receive helpful replies.
Our training providers are all very helpful and can always help as well as this they are good teaches and have structured and informative lessons. However our maths teacher has just started at teaching and is still learning how to teach as efficiently as the other teachers and so it is harder to learn from those lessons.
Our qualifications that we will complete will help a lot with moving on to the next step as so far they have taught us a lot of important information that we will need.
So far we haven’t been able to experience any of these activities due to the pandemic, however I heard there is a gym at the college that I look forward to attending after the pandemic.
Yes
I would recommend Leonardo to a friend as it is a great place to learn providing 4 years of learning about the subject relating to engineering. Leonardos has also proven to be very helpful and supportive company.
I would give advice to only apply to Leonardos if you are truly interested in the subject if this is true the learning scheme will be extremely interesting and instead of being a job or chore it will be a hobby, if you have this interest make sure you show Leonardos this and they will notice it and it will be the best possible way you can apply.
