  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have just started with the company as an apprentice fitter and i am coming towards the end of week 3. All learning has been virtual, week 1 induction and weeks 2 & 3 online with Perth college.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my induction week i learned a whole variety of stuff on Health and Safety ranging from: PPE, Working at height, Asbestos Awareness, Fire safety and much more. I have also developed better communication skills to all different types of people virtually through the induction and college.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • As a new start the programme is exciting and new to me, it had been very well explained via the learner team managers and various other people within the induction and makes you feel like the future ahead is excting and there is always more to learn.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is a great structure with the mixing of training, on job training and college and making sure you aren't doing the same thing daily. It is also well structed as you know when exactly your training dates and college dates are so you feel organised as well.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel there is plenty support whether that is from my learner team manager or depot manager they are always in touch and asking how we are getting on and never leaving us feeling worried about anything.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • After my first two week block at college the tutors there have given us lengthy detailed notes and went through helpful PowerPoints to explain things to us. They also go over any answer and can provide us with detailed answers to any of our questions in order to make sure we understand it well.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel learning the stuff at college will help me put things into practice as when i come to on job training it will tie in with the theory work at college and help me have more of an understanding in the role before i have started giving me more of a chance of getting it quicker.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Being a new start i have not heard of any extra-curricular clubs as of yet but i look forward to seeing what goes on outside the business as i'm sure there will be a few things you can join.

  • 9a. Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • As it is a company who value their employees and make you feel like you are more than just a number and it is a great program to get on to with chances of developing and moving up the ranks in order to get the most out of your career.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
  • Never give up and always believe in yourself as after my first two interviews i thought they went terrible, little did i know i was in the final stage of the interviewing process and now here i am. Also just stick in and be keen to be the best u can.
