  • I work in design and answer concessions based on errors or problems with manufacturing to help provide a solution which allows manufacture to continue without having to scrap the part

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have learnt many skills while completing my apprenticeship as i have moved to a new area of the business every 4 months, i have worked in electronic warfare, flight line, design, quality and support. I have developed skills such as fitting, CAD, computer skills and also gained a lot of knowledge about aircraft and manufacturing processes

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i have really enjoyed the programme and feel that it has helped me to develop a lot of skills and knowledge as an apprentice which will make me better at my job when i finish my apprenticeship. i feel that by moving around the business i have a broad knowledge of different areas and aircraft which will be beneficial to me in the future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme involves a lot of training courses and is well structured which has helped me to develop my learning further. There is a full team dedicated to early careers which are always able to support you and keep everything running smoothly

  • There is a lot of support provided by the employer through things like mentors, HR, safeguarding officers and the employee support helpline which is an anonymous helpline that is accessible 24/7.

  • I have received a lot of support and information to help me achieve my qualification. The early careers team are very knowledgeable on the different qualifications and understand what is needed to complete each one.

  • The qualifications i earn through the apprenticeship cover so many different aspects of engineering which helps me to develop many skills and gain a broader knowledge of engineering and manufacturing which is beneficial to my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes, there are a variety of sports teams in the business and also an outward bound trip at the start of the apprenticeship. There is also opportunities to help the community by helping charities through events ran in the company.

  • Yes

  • It is a great company to work for with a lot of benefits and help provided, the salary is also very competitive and the work is interesting and enjoyable.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Ensure that you are genuinely interested in engineering and aircraft rather than looking for the benefits and competitive salary as you may not enjoy the work if it isn't something you are interested in.
