  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in technical home claims team and my day to day role is helping claims handlers with any referrals that they may have on any particular claim and also review the payments that the handlers raise. I review the claims to pick up any knowledge gaps and work with the handlers leader to provide any relevant training that maybe required. I also handler any complaints that the handlers aren't able to resolve and escalate these where necessary.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Whilst doing my apprenticeship it has helped me expand my existing skills and helps my in my day to day role. When I take a referral or review a payment i can always refer back to what i have learnt, for example proximate cause, sometimes it can be hard to establish what the proximate cause of a claim is but the way i have learnt this through the apprenticeship is that its not always the first cause but the dominant cause.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the program as i get time to do it in my working hours and i can do the work at my own pace, if i get stuck or if i am not understanding a certain aspect of the book i know i can speak to my tutor and they will explain or if i am still finding it hard they arrange revision sessions which really help and makes sure i fully understand. The support that is provided is excellent.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel it is organised very well as i have regular catch ups with my tutor, they are spaced about 6 weeks apart and is always followed up by an email with a to do list so i know what i should be doing and by when. It also helps that many other people are doing the apprenticeship as i can always ask my work colleagues for help and guidance as well as my tutor.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My support from my employer is excellent, they make sure i have time booked out each week and if i need to attend a revision session they will allow me this extra time also. It really helps take the stress off knowing i will get the time to do the tasks that i have been set. My employer also gives me the day off before one of the exams so i can spend the whole day revising and going over my notes which really helps.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support is tailored to my needs, i usually just have the regular catch up with my tutor every 6 weeks but i know if i need any further help i can contact my tutor and they will arrange further help for me. They also have regular revision sessions which covers everything from start to finish which is really helpful and the website has a ton of information which helps with the exam prep. I feel Kaplan have been there from day one for me and i know i can always turn to them for help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel everything i have done through the apprenticeship is relevant to my job role so i find it very helpful. The apprenticeship has just expanded on what i already knew and this helps when i am taking referrals from handlers and having to explain things like contribution claims and the marker agreements in place, the qualification has made me more confident in my job and gives me a wider overview of the insurance market.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There has not really been an extra curricular activities but i think this is mainly down to the pandemic however there is groups on our Yammer that we can join and speak to other apprentices and find out how they are getting on and where they are up to. I found this group helpful as i found someone who was going to an exam the same time as me and we was able to do some revision together and lean on each other for advice.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSA Insurance Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend RSA to a friend as i feel like they provide excellent training and really try to develop you as a person, they go above and beyond and during my time at RSA i haven't had a bad experience. They have really helped me when i have struggled during the pandemic with flexible working and regularly check in. i am very fortunate to work for a company that puts my wellbeing first

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSA Insurance Ltd?
  • I would advice anyone who applies to just be themselves, as long as you bring a good attitude and willing to do the work you will be fine working for RSA as they will look after you, they really develop you and put a lot of time into training and i really think this shows as some of the staff have been here many years. I have been very happy working for RSA and don't have any plans to leave anytime soon.
