I spend half my time at Rolls Royce learning and development centre and the other half of my time at university. At the learning and development site I rotate between different courses ranging from welding to electronics and learn how to perform basic tasks in each area.
I am learning many new skills each day as the courses revolve and give me an insight into each area. My performance is always reviewed too at the end of each module to ensure I have taken on board what I have been taught.
The people I work with are generally very nice and add a lot to the work environment and overall happiness of the company, which makes it significantly more enjoyable. The work is often interesting too and university is fun too.
A timetable is made well in advance of you starting and allows you to be sure of how long you have to complete each task and module. Although there can be the odd hiccup, it is generally very well structured, especially given the current pandemic.
I have a line manager who I can contact at any time for advice and help which is always nice and other people around them that I can contact should the line manager not be able to help.
Again, I have my line manager who can direct me to the right person for support should I need it and the teachers are generally very helpful and approachable people.
Because I learn the basics about each section of engineering before advancing into the wider company, I feel I am much more geared up to tasks that may be set as I will have had the basic training in each section, which also adds to my confidence as an engineer.
Though I am aware of them, because of the pandemic I have not been able to partake in many of these as most have been temporally cancelled to ensure the heath of others, so I feel it would be unfair to give feedback at this point.
Yes
Generally nice people with great engineering prospects in the future and you feel that you really are becoming an engineer as you progress. Good pay in the latter years too.
Show that you're interested in engineering and can think about the wider picture of engineering (customer relations, maintenance, the business, etc.) and always be a friendly person to others around you.
