I perform testing on the financial statement line items of the client such as bank reconciliations, ppe testing, cash testing and accruals testing. I am expected to speak to the client via email or face to face depending on the size and nature of the business I am auditing.
I have completed some of the exams that qualify toward the ACA qualitfication. I have attended training courses before my placement provided for by the company and uni. I have learnt skills through practice and by completing e-learns.
I enjoy working with the people within the firm and I relaly enjoy the company of the people on the univesity degree. Depending on the client, it can be difficult to comminute with them. I enjoy working as a team and making new friends internally within the firm and externally outside the firm however I find the type of work in the department I work in quite mundane.
I feel valued by my peers and teams. I do not feel there is much recognition for the work I have performed though. The company does promote spot awards monthly for employees who have been nominated by their peers for good work.
This structure is very well organised for anyone that is sure that they want to get an ACA qualification and work in audit. The support is great and the training is well structureed. The flexibility at graduation is also a bonus for those who decide not to go into accountancy.
I have only seen my peoples manager once this year in comparison to last year where I saw my PM twice a month for a catch up. Depednign on the person you are assigned for guidance, the support can vary. The lectureres are great support and an email away if there are any questions. Their is also a specific leader for the programme and flying start champion for each office for guidance.
I do not spend too much time with the managers of my jobs. I tend to recived support from the person 1 level above my grade. They are usually very supportive and give advice and coaching whenevr I am finding it difficult ot compelte a task.
With the accomodation covered, the salary is sufficient however when we graduate I belive the salary will be struggle to meet the costs of living espeically in london. The travel costs are also very expensive as we are placed in zone 4 of london thus bringing monthly costs to at least £130.
There are many social events created by social committees in the office such as the corinthiam cup where the different social groups compete against each other in fun sports and get together for drinks and food. I have also volunteerd as a mentor fo rthe ICAEW BSAE event for the London heats. It was good fun adn a nice change from the day to day life of work.
