  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day-to- basis, my role involves carrying out thermal stability testing for pipeline projects or explosive testing to analyse the data traces and identify any decompositions. This role has a lot of variety, for example I can be operating different types of equipment, running different types of experiments, getting involved with writing reports and much more.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many new skills, ranging from technical skills such as operating specialised pieces of equipment, to working efficiently within a professional environment. Also I have built upon skills such as effective communication and presentation skills, through multiple programs sponsored by AstraZeneca.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my program because it enables me to learn new ways of working and challenges me to solve problems. Also, the flexibility available within the program to really explore different functions of the program, allows you to get different experiences, learn many new skills and identify your strengths.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program is really well structured as AstraZeneca has been running apprenticeships for a long time, meaning they are well prepared to deal with any type of situations and structure their programs really effectively to maximise learning and development for the apprentice.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • AstraZeneca is really supportive, they really support you with learning new skills at work, but also for you university studies. We have dedicated teams who deal with apprentices and who we can go to for help , and help is always there when needed. Also we get assigned a buddy, who helps us navigate through our work life and we also have support of our line managers.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider support is good, they have support available to access for studies or any other problem. Due to the degree being all virtual, sometimes it is difficult to feel the support available, but overall they provide a really good platform for you to engage with the lecturers and progress further in your education.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel the knowledge I'm gaining within my qualification, allows me to better make sense of work and processes carried out at the workplace. The education provided creates a really good foundation to start applying my knowledge at the workplace and develop my skills further.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to Covid, it has been really hard to get involved with extra-curricular, however I feel AstraZeneca has done a tremendous job of doing the best they could do, and have run a lot of extra-circular activities virtually. I have been involved in multiple networking events, and also multiple outreach activities to promote apprenticheips, which has ultimately improved my communication skills.

  • Yes

  • I feel AstraZeneca is one of the best companies you could work for. They really support your development, and help you really progress in your career. Also some of the benefits provided by AstraZeneca are amazing such flexible working schedule, and the ability to buy extra holidays.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca?
  • Really research in to what AstraZeneca does and how they do it. Also, make sure to do research on you chosen role, and identify what skills you can bring to AstraZeneca. Ultimately, let your personality and skills shine through in the recruitment process, for example showing skills such as strong communication and teamwork is essential.
