  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I start my day by cleaning all of the door handles and switches in the building because of corona virus, one this is done I clean the work shop for at least 1hour. I will then ask the workshop supervisor if there is anything else that needs done, if not i will find my mentor and find out what were doing and i will work with him for the rest of the day, if anything else is required for me to do the supervisor will find me and let me know what he wants done.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills, such as being more confident, i think about things before doing them a lot more than before i started the job, such as ‘will this be the easiest way to do the job’ or ‘will this cause any hazards doing it this way’ etc. I have also became more focused since starting at motus, which is helping me in both work and outside of work. I have also became more creative since working here, sometimes you cant always get the correct parts required for the job in time so sometimes i have fixed up something else so that it will work just as good.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my programme, from working in the workshop with other colleagues that i get on really well with, to going to college at bristol every so often. Its brilliant, u I have met so many new people and possible friends for life because of this apprenticeship which i am very grateful for. In the workshop i am constantly learning but also having a laugh while doing so. Travelling down to bristol is exciting, staying away from home for 2 weeks while learning and meeting new friends from all over the UK is brilliant.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very organised, i get notifications/ emails with my college dates multiple months before i am meant to go down, i also get my flight times multiple weeks before i go so i can plan what i have to do/ get done in plenty of time without any rush. Also my manager keeps me up to date with everything also, such as swapping mentors or change of shifts etc. He lets me know in plenty of time

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive plenty of support from my training provider, while i was on furlough i was still being sent questions and assignments to do which i am grateful for, Scotland have an allocated employee from skillnet and he comes in every month or 2, while he’s here he goes through my last college block results and my feed back of how i did, he will let me know what to do better and how i can do it better for future reference. He will also leave us work to do for the next time he comes back, since corona virus he cant come out but he still regularly phones me and asks how i’mgetting on and insists i phone him if i have any problems or worries.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification through my training provider helps me massively, i get shown how to right up job cards correctly, this then prevents the company from loosing money because i am not making mistakes. They also visually inspect me while working on a truck so if i am doing anything wrong, including health and safety they will inform me and i will remember in future how to do it properly. They also get me ready for the next time i go down to college so that i understand what i will be doing, this makes me feel more confident when going to Bristol college

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Before corona virus we played football on a Tuesday night, that included office staff, technicians and also staff from the parts department. This was great fun and a good way to de stress after a shift, it was also a really good laugh and you get to know your colleagues better in out of work hours. We sometimes have nights out also, such as going to the pub or a party with colleagues from work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend MOTUS Commercials to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company thinks about there employees, they take care of them. It is a great place to work and the moneys good also. It is a massive business with loads of different jobs and requirements. There are multiple depots in Scotland also so they could possibly pick the ones closest for them which is very convenient. I would be glad to see a friend join motus as i know they will be looked after while employed at the business

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to MOTUS Commercials?
  • I would advise people who are applying for a job at Motus to just be yourself while being interviewed. I would also advise that you know you want to do the job and that you have a mild understanding of how the components of a truck work as this will help you massively in the process of applying. I would also advise that they keep there hopes up and that if you don't get picked it doesn’t mean its the end of the world, there are other jobs out there, you can always apply again in future.
