As a customer adviser my role consists of serving on the counter for deposits/ withdrawals, completing admin and carrying out appointments.
I have massively improved my customer service, communication and problem solving skills while I have worked here. In this role you have to interact with a huge variety of customers and work within a team so having good customer service and communication skills is very important. Working in banking and finance can be very challenging and therefore you must have very good problem solving skills to overcome any situation.
I very much enjoy my apprenticeship as I have always wanted to work in finance and this is the perfect role to get me into this sector.
The programme is very well structured and straightforward. This means there is very little chance of becoming confused or overwhelmed by the workload which is very beneficial when you also have to support the branch with every day tasks like admin, serving on the counter or carrying out appointments.
The support from Newcastle Building Society is amazing. Every member of staff is listened to and having monthly check ins with your line manager is a great way to maintain high levels of morale and put forward any suggestions that you may have.
The support from the training provider is great as you have regular contact through email and monthly meetings so if I'm ever unsure about anything to do with my qualification i can ask and have the support i need.
The qualification helps me to get a better understanding of the banking and finance sector as all of the tasks set are relevant to my role (customer service, competition etc.).
Due to the pandemic there is very little however there is regular meetings and training to attend virtually.

NBS is a great company to work for as aside from the role being enjoyable, the support received when needed is amazing and the benefits of working for NBS are also a lot better than other similar employers.
NBS are all about our customers and pride ourselves on customer service so if you are applying, think about how YOU can provide the best possible service.
