I work in Oneills oxford as kitchen manager. I have worked here for over three years now. My role is to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen on a day to day basis, to ensure the team are fully trained, that the kitchen is to standard. I do the stocks, ordering, non-consumables ordering. Alongside this i am training for the position of AKM which means i will be helping other kitchens in the district to achieve their full potential. It is a very stressful job but i thoroughly enjoy it and am hoping to continue to expand my knowledge
During my time attending chefs academy and completing my apprenticeship i have gained a lot of new skills both cooking wise and academic wise. For the cooking side of things, i have never done cooking like that before- so it was a real eye opener to see how dishes are made and where the ingredients come from. Not only that but my confidence has grown along the way, i was always quite nervous when first attending chefs academy but now feel more comfortable and confident with what I’m doing. In terms of the apprenticeship side it has helped me to become more organised with my work.
I really enjoy it, especially at the moment during lock down it is brilliant to be able to complete cooking at home which gives me something to do and a sense of purpose. I also enjoy gaining the new skills, knowledge and confidence.
Pretty well organised- usually very but understandable at the moment that it isn’t as organised as we are in the middle of a pandemic, however i appreciate how consistent the life time and chefs academy team are at replying to any queries or worries i have. So I wouldn’t say I’m unhappy with the current situation.
Full support from both my GM and RBM, i have had no problems from them whatsoever just consistent and constant support.
When i first started my apprenticeship my lifetime trainer didn’t really offer that much support but my current lifetime trainer goes above and beyond. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] is very supportive and consistent with replying to me. I have gained so much confidence over the past few months in my abilities and this is just from having the support from my lifetime trainer, having someone believe in what you are doing makes all the difference. Alongside this i feel my previous lifetime trainer was less relatable whereas [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has a lot of experience which helps me to learn.
In more of an organisational side of things, as i cant really use the skills for cooking as we don’t make our own menus. Is also good to share my knowledge with the team.

I have worked for many different pub brands over the years and would say i have most enjoyed working at Mitchell and butlers.
Just strive to be the best you can, anything is possible if you are willing to put the work in and go for it. I have had so many opportunities come my way through putting in the hard work and it has been a fun journey too.
