My job title is Trainee Associate in the Private Client Tax Team within PwC. On a daily basis, I prepare tax returns and deal with queries that our clients have. I work my colleagues and managers on more complex tasks and help managers in particular, to prepare for client meetings. Occasionally, I do deal with clients over the telephone or via email and have attended a few client meetings in the last 6 months. My responsibilities as I mostly prepare tax returns, however, I sometimes do consultancy work and admin tasks to help out.
I have learnt how to interact with clients and colleagues in a professional manner. The training given when you start with PwC gives you an insight to the job and there is continuous training when you get to the office with a buddy on hand to answer any questions you have.
I do enjoy work and am part of a good team. It is nothing like I expected and there is a very laid back atmosphere in the office.
PwC do offer incentives such as a bonus and choices giving you benefits such as life insurance, dental insurance, travel insurance and a company car if you want. However, these options work out better for managers who get a bigger budget on choices.
You would think that working for a large firm would be scary and very professional. However, PwC is very laid back and everyone is lovely. When travelling for our Induction, everything was very last minute and no one greeted us when we arrived at the hotel. The next morning when others arrived, it was more welcoming and a proper introduction was given. However, the feedback system is quite unfair and can be hard to gte used to as your colleagues give you feedback which affects your overall performance for the year!
Very Little support is given from the training provider and you are expected to learn most of it independently with only a couple days of class a year.
There isn't much support within work and you have to do most of your work at home as there is little opportunity to do it within work.
The salary of a HApp is not great but is definitely worthwhile as you are gaining a qualification and work experience rather than going to university and having a student loan to pay back in further years.
Yes, Lots of opportunities such as First Friday where there is an event at the local Hilton and you get two free drinks. There is also a Tax Away Day. Other benefits are discounted gym memberships and the shopping portal allows you to get discount on a lot of amenities.
Yes
Good opportunity to start a good career and there seems to be many opportunities to progress.
Try not to worry on assessment days and ensure that you stay calm throughout the recruitment process.
