I work in the Recruitment Team at DLG and I'm responsible for the attraction of candidates to our career opportunities across the business. This involves working with job boards to buy advertising, running campaigns, looking after social media and the careers website as well as working with the company brand guidelines. It is a really varied role and do involve working across many teams and departments in DLG.
My apprenticeship was in digital marketing and was a great way to develop my marketing skills further. I learnt to take time to upskill myself and keep up to date with what is happening in the Recruitment market as well as digital marketing. The apprenticeship also included Google Analytics and work around running my own campaigns. The biggest skill was taking the time to evaluate and understand return on investment on campaigns which has been valuable to my role.
I loved doing the apprenticeship programme and gave me more confidence in myself but also the skills I have. I was apprehensive at first as I hadn't done anything like this in a long time but the structure of the programme and the support I was given from both the trainers, my work team and manager was amazing. It was great to upskill myself, add value to my role an progress my career further.
My programme was all online and so it was easy to see the structure of the programme and what milestones I need to hit and by when. During the programme Lockdown 1 and 2 were a huge part and both DLG and the training provider responded quickly, giving me all the information and support I needed. It was a difficult time to adjust during this time but training providers were really understanding and great support.
I received a huge amount of support from my employer, especially as Lockdown 1 and 2 were big factors in my own life and my day to day role. At times it was hard to deal with the situation, but people from work were always on hand to talk through my programme give me support and time I needed to completed work as well giving me ideas. I couldn't have asked for any more support than I got and they really kept me motivated.
Again the support I received from the training provider was amazing. With lots of changes happening because of COVID-19 the trainers reacted quickly and ensured learning could continue. Extra support was available if I needed it and if I needed to just talk about ideas again they were always on hand. I had a few exams to complete during this time and the extra revision sessions and chances to talk through my portfolio of work was great. I couldn't have asked for more.
The qualification has helped me be more confident in my role, it has made me stop and think about work I am doing, the impact it can have as well as the value. It has also given me confidence to challenge during discussions based on what I know and have learnt and allowed me to open my mind to more option around digital marketing and attraction techniques. The qualification has been really valuable to me personally and is adding value to my role.
There is so much going on in work, we have a great culture of people which we are really proud of and I love working for DLG. Things are little bit different at the moment as majority of the business is working from home and new people are also working from home... because of this we are doing everything we can to make everyone feel welcome and listened to. During none Covid times we have so much going on across the teams from social nights out, team lunches, meals, sports clubs, book and movie clubs and so much more! The people really make this business and I've never worked for a company like it.
Yes
The business really listen and they do care. I've never worked for a company that is so open about mental health and understands when you are just not having a good day. There is so much new and exciting things coming from DLG and the people are the driving force behind it all, that makes me really proud that we make changes and are all working together to make things better for our customers too. I would honestly recommend this company to anyone who wants a rewarding career and wants to help shape a business.
Be yourself, we have a great culture in the business and letting your personality shine is key. The company will support you in your development but you also need to own this and talk about what you want from your development and share the steps you are taking to do so. The company has a great learning platform that is open to anyone and that is great resource. You need to be open to change and embrace it as the world of insurance is always changing and we are always looking for ways to do things in a better way. Be open about your ideas and be ready to work hard, it is a really busy industry but is also very rewarding.
