As an apprentice HGV technician I carry out repairs on trucks as well as inspecting and diagnosing faults on the vehicles this can be done using DAVIE or just looking around where the problem is occuring. I also fill out paper work for the jobs i have worked on and completed. I also deal with customers face to face as they may ask questions about certain problems they are having. In this situation i will help them as much as i can.
As an apprentice HGV technician i have learned lots from communication skills when speaking with customers and dealing with the problems they are facing as well as practical and theory skills which is in the workshop. Practical skills are like carrying out a job to the correct standards and making sure it is done correctly. Theory skills is like using RMI to learn something new. Then there is using the DAVIE and learning how to read fault codes and program certain aspects of a vehicle.
I enjoy the programme a lot. its a great in the sense of practical work and it is also good for learning how to use certain things on computers such as DAF RMI or using a DAVIE. I also enjoy talking with customers and finding out what they need. It is also nice when you carry something out for a customer and they are thankful that you have done so it makes you feel great.
I would say the DAF apprentice programme is very well organised and structured. Going to college in bristol for blocks of 2 weeks is a great way to learn. I much prefer blocks then as some other companies do which is doing college once a week. I feel like one straight block for 2 weeks is a more efficient way to learn. There is also the skillnet side which is also good. Skillnet will either visit or call you for a review but it will be at rough set intervals.
my mentor is very helpful and teaches me how to carry out jobs very well. He is very helpful and is great to learn from. My manager is also very helpful as i can ask him anything and he will help me out where possible. This is also the same with the foreman, if i have any problems and help them they are always happy to help me as well as teach me.
I receive plenty of support from my training provider at skillnet all I have to do if i have any problems is either message him or ring him and he will assist me as much as he can. Then if not I can just talk to him when he comes to do the review with me throughout the year. There is also [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who will assist when it is needed which is also great.
My qualification helps a lot with my role as that is the main part where i learn lots of theory for my qualification which can then be implemented into the workshop when im at work. It increases my understanding of certain jobs and can help me a lot. I definitely know a lot about my job and role in the company because of my qualification as well my qualification helps me on a day to day basis.
As an apprentice it is possible to enter for the apprentice of the year.
Yes
I would recommend motus commercials to a friend as it is a great company for taking on apprentices and there is lots of options in the future that a person could get to such as they could try and work their way up to become a master technician in the workshop which is a great qualification to have or they could go down the route of management. this could be in an area such as service or parts.
I would say that working as Apprentice HGV technician is a great opportunity as it is very practical and the learning never stops.
