My role is very manic at times especially when it is busy. My role involves speaking with new and existing business regarding Home insurance. So for example dealing with customers existing policies i.e renewing polices, cancelling or even retaining business. I also deal with New business by proving new home insurance quotations for them. So i would be responsible for going through the whole quote stage with the customer and finalising the sale too. I am however moving roles in the business to be a claims handler so I have moved over to claims.
Since Joining RSA, I have learnt and developed so many new skills and built on existing skills I already have. Mainly my communication and speaking with new people has always been strong but i have learnt how to speak to different audiences and managed to have that approach on my calls with customers. Also my willingness to go the extra mile for someone is really something that RSA has helped me build on and it is one of the core values of the business which is Do the right thing.
With regards to my apprenticeship programme I like that it is very in tail with my existing role. I enjoy The apprenticeship programme because it is so interesting to understand and learn the fundamentals of insurance which not only will it help me in my day to day role, but it will help me to progress further in what I want to do. The programme is a challenge but i do love a challenge and i know my company will support me the best they can.
The structure to my programme is actually really good. It is set up well for me to be ready for the exams I will need to do so it is organised well in order for me to achieve what I need to achieve. I do get 20% off the job to focus on my apprenticeship so I will get time booked out each week to focus on my apprenticeship and focus on revising for my exams.
Right now I'm not sure if I am getting the right support from my employer because I am not really getting the hours I'm supposed to be getting if I'm honest. My employer has been great getting me on it and of course I appreciate their support for this but the main thing is just to be getting the right hours I need so I am not stressing after work to be revising for so long etc.
I believe my training Provider Davies Learning Solutions have been great with regards to support towards my qualifications. The Apprentice Coach is an insurance expert and An EX Loss Adjuster which is something I do desire to become. So me and my apprentice coach have a plan to get there and not only that have a well organised plan in gaining the Qualifications i need in order to take up the career path that I want.
The Qualification will help massively because it will teach me the basics and fundamentals in insurance especially from a claims handling perspective. Not only that, it will teach me the fundamentals from a Insurance risk legal and regulatory perspective and teach me the mains parts of that too which is vital in helping me perform better in my day to day role. It will help me understand certain processes better and make me a better claims handler and potential Loss Adjuster.
At my work place, there are no other extra-curricular activities at my work place to be honest which is a real shame. It would be great if there was a Gym onsite as that would help get that relief away from my day to day role. I believe there might be some professional networking events i believe for CII and CII members but I dont think it is through work, it is just through CII directly.
Yes
I would recommend RSA to a friend because it is a company which really does care for its employers. Not only that, the environment is super friendly and the people at RSA within the business is what makes it great. Also the fact that the company offers clear routes for progression is why it is a very attractive company and the size of the company backs it up. Overall I really do enjoy working at RSA.
The tips I would give to others is would it be for you. Is the role something you're looking at for short term purposes or long term purposes. If you're applying for long term, it is definitely worth it especially if you're looking to starting a career in insurance the company fully supports this. Also a tip I would say especially at interview stage is to just be yourself and be confident.
