I process the engineers timesheets and holidays on a weekly basis. I raise purchase order. I submit the live jointing requests to the various network suppliers. I submit the permit requests to the relevant councils to enable our engineers to dig and do their job. I also collate the various paperwork for RTC claims.
I have learnt all about project management as I had no knowledge of this before hand. I have learnt to be more mindful of how colleagues work and that my way of working is not the way that they will want to work and that their way may take more time to do the work.
I enjoyed it to a point as I was learning new things which is what I enjoy but it did seem rushed at the end of the course as I had fallen behind with the work so was pushed to do the assignments and get ready for the exams at the end.
The assignments that I had to do fell in line with what I was learning which was good and well thought about. Some months, especially at the start, there was too much work to do so I think that it could be more spread out over the months and maybe extend the course.
I was given all the support that I wanted from my employer. I was able to ask my line manager for help at any time and got the help required. Due to my workload I didnt make use of taking any extra time to do the course so most of it was done from home.
I was able to ask my development coach anything when we met up for our monthly meetings and we could discuss my queries. I was able to email any queries to my development coach in between meetings but they sometimes didnt come back to me with a response so I had to wait until my meeting to ask it again.
The work towards the qualification I think has made me a better, more knowledgable worker for my organisation as I have learnt more about the company as a whole and not just the part of it that I work for. I am also more understanding and patient with how my colleagues work, it that is in a different way than the one I think is the more time efficient way of working.
Due to Covid we have not been able to do any extra curricular activities for the last year. Before Covid happened our section would go out for occasional bingo nights and it is hoped that when things get back to normal to be able to resume these as well as the odd night out. We also had a Christmas Party every year where the whole depot could go.
Yes
The work that we do is varied and at times challenging. We are always receiving other work to do which means that we have to learn new things which can only be seen as a good thing for us. We are a friendly group of people in our depot and we can have a laugh but can be serious when we need to be. We are allowed to do any training that is available to us.
I would advise them to not only learn about the section of the company that they want to join but to research the whole company including what other depots there are around the country. They will need to research the different areas of the company that there are and how they can relate to each other.
