I’m a reception team leader which involves leading a team to deliver excellent guest experience. Making sure that everyone staying with us is happy with the service and the experience with us. Making sure all food and consumable orders are placed in a timely manner and we are fully stocked with everything we need.
during my time on apprenticeship i have picked up many new skills in terms of leading a team, staying on top of health and safety, risk assessments, budgets and spending. I have also built on my skills in the management department having been given more responsibilities as my knowledge has grown.
I really enjoyed the programme I was on as I felt very well supported by both my manager and assessor. I was learning a lot of new skills relating to my department and it’s helped me to establish that hospitality and management are definitely the right avenues for myself when it comes to my career.
The program is very well structured as it covers so many different areas of working in the hospitality industry and management. It’s split up in to a number of modules to make it easier and more structured to work through. Also my assessor was very understanding and flexible when it came to meetings.
I receive a great amount of support from my employer. I was given hours during work in which to complete any modules or tasks I had to do. I found my manager very approachable and massively helpful when it came to learning about management tasks or needing any questions answering.
The support I received from my assessor from lifetime was great. I could contact her at any time with questions and she would always get back to me promptly and was very flexible when it came to scheduling meetings. And she was super helpful with any queries I had. If she didn’t know she would find out.
Having completed apprenticeship it is very clear to see in my work that I have picked up a number of skills which has allowed me to perform better in my role. Such as dealing with people. Being approachable to other staff members. Understanding better how the business works and why we do the things we do.
Whitbread as a company have a massive number of social activities, fundraising events, community support, team building days and so on. They are a great company to work for because of many different reasons one of the main being how much they care about their staff, their well-being and their progression.
Yes
I have worked with whitbread for over three years now and I can honestly say without a shadow of a doubt that they have provided me with more support, opportunities and new skills than any other job I’ve ever had. I would recommend whitbread to anyone as an employer and as a company.
If you are looking to work somewhere where you can progress from within, learn new skills, have different experiences every shift and be part of a massive family then whitbread is the way to go. You need to be good with people and be aware that no two days are the same in the hospitality industry.
