  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My experience so far on my apprenticeship has been good. I got a lot of information at the start of the course and the onboarding process was great, I had several calls talking me through everything and taking me through the course and gave me lots of opportunities to ask questions. The informtion was very informative and very helpful. The online sessions have been great, giving us opportunity to explore the topics in more detail and again ask questions if we did not understand. I have my own tutor to go to if I need help, I would have preferred a little more contact with him, I have advised I had finished topics a few months ago and am still waiting for them to be marked. And we do not have the regular monthly meeting, which was suggested at the start of the course. If I email him he does get back to me promptly, so I can go to him if I need anything though. I online content is brilliant and gives you lots of information around the subject I am covering. I like the little quizes and activities as they really make sure you have understood the information. I am also set activities for each topic. Overall I am enjoying it but do sometimes struggle to fit the work in around my job and often find myself doing the non-practicle work at the weekends.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of skills around project management. I has given me a much better understanding of the role and helped me explore and get more exposure within my business in this area. I have also secured a new role, whilst doing the apprenticeship within the project world. The course has been great for me.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I massively enjoy leanring new skills and developing myself, I do find it difficult to do all the written work, I would much prefer to stick to the practicle and learn on the job, but this has given me the opportunity to do both. It has opened my eyes to what is involved and made me what to get there even more, and given me a clear path of how I get there.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured, There are group sessions planned in every 3 months, which gives us the chance to catch up with the trainers and ask any questions. At the start of the course I was told I would have monthly meetings with my tutor but this has not happened. The course on babington online is very clearly laid out and easy to work through.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In my original role, I received great support from my management team and the change specialist. I got chances to work on lots of projects and got some great experience. Since moving my team are not as aware of the apprenticeship but they ahve been very supportive and if I have needed to do anything or see anything they have been more than happy to provide this for me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I started the course 6 months ago and since then I have had 2 group sessions which were around 3 hours long, and I have had 2 ten minute conversations with my tutor. I think I would have preferred more, but I have not really had any questions. I would have liked to have my work marked, which hasn't been done for 3 months, so I know I am doing the work correct and to make sure I understand it more. But everytime I have spoken to someone they have always offered support and advised that they are there if I need anything

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has given me great exposure to more projects and I think this in turn gives me experience to improve my CV and gives me better opportunities going forward. Since starting the course I have also secured myself a new role within one of our project teams and the lessons I have picked up from the course has put me in the position where this was possible and helped me succeed in the role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • With the current situation with the pandemic there hasn't been anything like this at work, however as restrictions start to lift there will be more opportunity for team activities, which we are planning to go ahead with to help team moral. There are no sports teams but team events and socialising will be happening hopefully very soon

  • 9a. Would you recommend E.ON to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great place to work for, and they support you with your choices. If you want to progress within the company there are a lot of people out there who will support you. I did feel it was very hard to get started, but once you are out of the bottom grade, it seems to get easier to progress.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON?
  • I would just say, be yourself, if you are right for the role and the role is right for you then you will succeed. If you want to progress within the company, make sure you shout about it and make sure you find yourself people who will help you get there.
