My role is in the Purchase to Pay team in Finance, where I deal with the payments made on behalf of the business, as well as reconciling any balances at the end of each month. Daily I look into paying any requested Ad-Hoc payments that come through and ensuring they have the correct details/approvals attached.
I have developed my communication and team working skills as my apprenticeship involves rotating to different parts of the Finance function, which has meant that i have been able to collaborate with different teams and learn several different skill sets for different role requirements. I have also been able to clearly link any onprogramme learning i do at my course at college, to my job role.
I am thoroughly enjoying my job role and programme, i am in a really friendly and supportive team, as well as apprenticeship programme and I find the content of my role really interesting. I am close to the apprentices in my intake year and am in constant contact with them so we can all support each other, especially during working from home.
I have found my programme to be very structured, as when i first started i was completing a Level 2 course for my AAT qualification and i have then been able to transition to start my Level 3. I feel like the internal transition or rotation on the Finance floor to experience different roles, has been extremely organised and the transition has been fine and i feel confident moving into a new role.
I have had a lot of support from my employer, especially with working from home. When I had to rotate into a new role, the new team were extremely helpful, in particular with the onboarding and transition into the role. I know that I would be able to go to anyone in my team for help and they would be more than willing to assist ro support me
I attend college classes once a week, on a Tuesday, whether that is online or in class. My tutor is very supportive and will always be open to help or discuss any worries about the qualifications or exams. I have really enjoyed my course so far at college, and find the content really interesting
I have recently found more and more link to the on-programme learning, which has overall really helped to solidify my understanding as well as confidence with some of the knowledge required for my course. By putting the learning into practice it has really helped put the theory into practice on a day to day basis.
Yes, recently there has been more social activities organised for the apprentices and i have found it nice to meet some of the new apprentices who i may not have met already in person. It is also nice to see or hear from different people and there stories if they began their work life as an apprentice.
Yes
When i left school i was unsure whether to go to university or apply for an apprenticeship. But since doing nearly 2 years on an apprenticeship, i have no regrets and i am thoroughly enjoying it. One of the main reasons being you are getting essential work experience whilst studying for a highly recognised qualification.
I would say if anyone is unsure whether to apply or is struggling to decide if they want to go to university, I would definitely sign up and consider it. The application process was really simple and easy to follow. I did an online recorded interview and then attended an assessment day; both of which i was really nervous for, but when you attend the people there and other people applying are really friendly and you are quickly reassured that it will be ok.
