My role is to an accounting position, i and it involves me working with a central finance team who help with the Planning, Contols and decision making within the business. We do this by creating budgets, tracking variances and looking for value adding services or goods. This can be across all levels of the business.
I am learning new things every day, i came to the Post Office with no finance background and have worked my way up thanks to the help and guidance of the Post Office. This apprenticeship is really helping me find my way in the accounting world and i am very greatful for being given this opportunity.
Doing this apprenticeship requires dedication, time and much effort. But thanks to my team and manager i get the support and guidence i need. Doing late nights and weekend studying is not fun but when you pass that exam it makes it all worth while in the end. I am lucky i have such a helpful group of colleagues around me to help.
My programme is very structured, i am know what learning i have to do when and have regular meeting with a mentor. The classes i take have been online and are live, at first i was nervous about not doing face to face classes but i have actually found them very good. The tutors are really helpful and answer any questions you ave as you go along.
My employer has been extremely supportive and are always there to help me. I regularly ask questions about what i have learnt and ask how this fits in with what i am learning. They are very keen to find me examples within the business and work through them with me in the real world.
I find the tutors really helpful and if you dont understand something they will gve you the time you need to learn a concept. the great thing about them is you also have an online portal where you can post questions or concerns and they get back to you within 24hrs.
My qualification is fundermental to my role, if i was not doing this then i would not be able to complete my tasks. On a daily basis i am given tasks within the business where i quickly flick to my study notes to make sure i am applying the correct thinking.
My work arrange many extra-curricular activites, as you can imagine it has been difficult during COVID but we have managed. The things we have been doing are virtual, but we always make sure that everyone is include and they can join in if they like. We are a really close knit team, any help out whenever we can in the community.
Yes
Post Office are a very big company, and sometimes you find that in big companies you feel like you are just a number. This is not the case in the postoffice, we are a giant family and we all work together and help each other whenever we can. They also help push you and motivate you to do and become better at what you do.
The Post Office is a very large and old business and we pride ourselves in being the heart of every community. We have lots of different roles and opportunities within the company, i would advise someone to look for the role they think bests suits them. Whoever it is also needs to be be customer focused, we all work to provide the best we can to our customers who rely on us.
