  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills I joined with very little knowledge of the role and I have learnt how to produce cost estimates, compile contracts, how to measure in accordance with measuring rules as well as using specialist software such as costx to measure. I have also learnt about how buildings are constructed and demolished such as the sequence of works and why it is important

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the people I work with and the feeling of having responsibility of projects and learning and developing and feeling like I am progressing. I don’t like when it is busy at work and I am pressed for time and then have to do university revision and preparation afterwards.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think it is very organised and structured in the third year at university. I think the first 2 years the structure was not as good as the lessons were spaced out with gaps in the middle of the day and then an early start and late finish, when having to travel a long way for uni it was disappointing having gaps in the middle of the day

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my mentor and close colleagues as they always have time to help me understand something and make me feel comfortable asking for help and guidance as I know they will take the time to ensure I learn and they push me to learn and push to get me the experiences I need. However I think my employer could do a lot more to support me by ensuring my mentor at least has more time each week to provide that support and give me the opportunity I need rather than fitting it in as and when

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive the support I would expect and the level required to achieve what I want mostly. I think at times feedback on assessments could be more detailed and actually feedback explaining what to do next time rather than just providing a comment in relation to my assessment as this will be more beneficial.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think it helps as it covers topics which may not be discussed directly at work for example the construction methods and materials we learn about in construction technology is useful as I work for a consultant so don’t get to learn about the on-site work process as often as others so it helps me understand and build up costs better in the work place

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there is for example during covid there has been various social groups formed based on a topic so people with similar interests can engage they also run annual events such as a bike ride and football tournament which I have taken part in. There is also lunch and learn sessions ran often

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pick Everard to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend them based on my personal experience as I have had very good colleagues who have supported me and taken great care of me at Pick Everard and they have pushed me to develop and they have pushed to spread my name within the company and passed on good feedback to myself and to people further up to make sure I get the recognition for my effort.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pick Everard?
  • I would advise them to make sure they work hard and and put in the effort required and then it will be recognised and people will put effort back into you. I would advise to make sure to push for what they want to ensure they can be offered what they need and to bring up issues that arise so they can get resolved
