  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Usually I look at my tickets I get assigned, then if I'm not waiting on a customer to get back to me then I will complete the ticket. Otherwise I will be doing paperwork or answering calls on the helpdesk

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt new networking skills. Dealing with unknown hardware and software. How to problem solve issues under pressure. How to deal with data properly. How to send off equipment due to COVID

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I like the fact that everyday is different and you have no idea what to expect. You can turn up to work planning on completing one job but getting side tracked and end up trying to help clients fix their machines

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have already received all of my course dates for the next year. I have an online portal where I can find out what work I have to do by a certain date. If I need anything then I can always contact my trainer for help.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • If I have a last minute appointment or need a day off from work with not much notice, then as long as it is a justifiable reason then I can get it off with no issues. If I want to talk to someone about an issue then I have lots of people that I can talk to

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Most of my training is on the job and I can always ask someone for help if I feel overwhelmed or struggling to keep up. When on a course I can contact multiple different people for help as well as asking for help from my trainer at the end of the day.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that I can now sort more problems out after taking my networking course. It allows me to think about the different types of issues that I could come across. I have used this training in a couple of different situations both at work and at home and the majority of the time it has worked without issues.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There will be lots of different activities to take part in and clubs to join, however due to COVID I haven't been able to take part in any of this. When the restrictions lift I am planning on joining the company gym.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Roke to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Roke is a very supportive company and there are lots of friendly people to work with and talk to. Provided you meet the basic core time periods in a day then you can choose your hours as long as you make up the correct amount of hours at the end of the week. There's also the clubs that you can join. On top of this you can go on walks through the grounds which is a change of scenery. You can walk by the river or you can walk in the woods. Walk down the driveway or just a quick circuit of the buildings.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Roke?
  • Apply through me as I get a bonus at the end of the year. Also apply and work hard as Roke is a great place to work
