My job as an Openreach engineer is to build the new fibre network for the whole of the United Kingdom. On a day - to - day basis I provide, maintain, repair and operate the fibre optics network for the United Kingdom. I work in residential homes and also in businesses to provide the fibre circuits.
I have learn many new skills in my job as an Openreach fibre optics network engineer. Skills such as communication skill; body language, non-verbal and verbal communication skills. I have also developed my inner well-being by thinking before doing any activities, and being aware of the consequences of all my actions.
To a significant extent do I enjoy my program. I have had help from many people in my organisations such as my assessor who helped me through tough times when I was doing the program. My assessor provided me with materials that helped me throughout my journey. My assessor also provided me with motivation as well.
The program that I had taken part was very organised. It was well thought of, well planned and well executed by my assessor/mentor. It was also taught to me in a way that was easy to follow, as I have severe mental health problems my assessor did tailor the program to my well-being. I am very grateful for my assessor to do this for me.
As mentioned previously, I do have severe mental health problems and my program/and employer (BT Openreach) did genuinely provide me with support and help. I received private phone calls from my assessor to discuss my needs and how my assessor would tailor the program to my well-being. My employer (BT Openreach) did provide me with e-mail that contained articles and supporting documents that has helped me.
I have received a lot of support from my training provider. Support such as calling me privately to discuss my needs and what resources were available for me. I was also given extra time for my qualification, however since the support was so brilliant I did not need this extra time and I submitted my qualification on time.
If I was being totally honest, it has helped me to perform very good in my role as a fibre optics engineer. Because I learnt skills such as communication skills like verbal and non verbal communication skills and how non-verbal body language play a huge impact with customers and people.
Working for BT group there are a lot of stuff that one could get involved with such as volunteering to work for different parts/roles in the organisation and learning/ improving on skills. There are prizes and competitions that one could get involved with in the organisation such as a "dragons den" style competitions were groups compete to get a new idea/development implemented into BT Group.
Yes
I would highly recommend working for BT group (mainly Openreach) because this company provides its employees with everything such a brand new fully kitted out van that has a microwave and kettle in it. Openreach provides it engineers with all (and I mean all) of the items/ training required for the role as an engineer.
The tips that I would provide to someone who is thinking of applying for BT (Openreach) is regarding customer service and health and safety as these are the top 2 things that are evident as a role as an engineer. It is worth mentioning these 2 things in an interview and also to learn the laws around health and safety act of 1974 and it's role in an organisation.
