I have been an apprentice at RAF valley for 18 months and my day to day duties are providing serviceable aircraft. This is done by removing unserviceable components and replacing them with serviceable components. I have learnt to adhere to a number of processes and health and safety regulations. I have 5-6 months left of the apprenticeship which I look forward to.
Since the beginning of my apprenticeship I have mainly enhanced and improved my hand skills dramatically. This has been done by using tools nearly every day and learning different techniques. I have also learnt how to find information needed for relevant tasks and implement them into the work that’s being carried out.
I have throughly enjoyed the whole apprenticeship, which has involved working on site and in college. I have made a number of friends and learnt valuable experiences that I will use day to day for the rest of my career. I have also worked in different environments which has lead to an even more well rounded experience.
The programme has been structured very well. I believe that any courses I have undertaken I have been ready and confident for the contents of the course. Because of the structure I have felt that the past 18 months of the apprenticeship have gone quickly and once again improved the apprenticeship.
There is plenty of support throughout the duration of the apprenticeship. We are given plenty of contacts to help guide with work, college etc.
We have received a lot of help from both the college and the employer. Plenty of resources have been handed.
The training is adequate for the tasks that we carry out on a day to day basis.
To date, I haven’t participated in any activities. Although we have been made aware of various activities available, covid has impacted these activities.
Yes
I have already recommended to friends who take an interest in engineering. I believe it is one of the best jobs on the island and I couldn’t pick a major fault throughout the apprenticeship.
Show good willingness and initiative and always be proactive rather than reactive. Also, learn more about the company and industry before applying to give a good base knowledge.
