I work in the T2 hanger carrying out jobs to keep the aircrafts in service. I am by trade and electrical and avionic engineer so I carry out AC/ELEC trade job on the aircraft, sometimes ournjobs need trade assistance from the mechanical guys so it is vital that we can work as part of a team.
Yes before I started as a babcock apprentice at RAF Valley I had next to nothing hand skills and had barely ever used a tool. Now everyday in work I am on the tools gaining conficence and skills I never thought ai would be able to, at firdt it felt alien to use even a rachet!
I thoroughly enjoy the programme I am on it is something very different. There arent many jobs out there where you get to work on military aircraft. I do not dread mondays as most people do as I like my job especially as an apprentice as I am still learning wveryday.
It is a very well organised/ structure programme, we are keept informed about everything that is going on in the company and what pur next steps are on the apprenticeship scheme. We are having our final review next month and the month after we are hving our interviews for full time roles goving us plenty of time to prepare
We have a lot of support, I haven’t had any problems personally yet but I do know of other apprentices with problems who have spoken about them and have had help straight away. It is nice to see as they have been happier amd a better wmployee after seeking help.
We recoved a lot of support. The college is run well and the teachers are highly qualified. Whenever we need extra time we are allowed to do into the training deptartment in work and carry on woth either college work or NvQ work to catch up so we dont have to do this jn our own time
My qualification helps me beform better because it has giving me the theory I needed to learn for my job. This qualification will also give me the chance of having a promotion quicker than others, as full tome working want to do the course we are doing for this reason.
Yes there is, over the years there has been a RAF valley football team, there is a top class gym on sitenwhere there are linch time classes run by the RAF to keep fit. In the gym there is a crossfit workout place downstairs with a indoor football pitch and the gym is upstairs
Yes
I wpuld recommend babcock to my forends due to the area we are living in there are next to nothing opportunities and to have a big company like babcock offering an amazing apprenticeship on ourndoor step, it is stupid not want to work here! It isnt a normal job as you would say as you are working on military aircraft which is cool
Know the industry beforehand, do your reaserch about the company and RAF Valley itself what are we trying to achieve here. Also get hnds on skills beforehand as working on aircraft is a highly skilled job and the more experience you have on the tools the better as it will go a long way
