  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I assist with client projects and help with small admin tasks to ensure a smooth delivery of whatever the client is asking for. I work in tax advisory which is less numbers and more about client interaction and giving advice where needed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt quite a few new skills while working here included excel skills, going from a basic level to being quite comfortable with the program. I have also learnt the importance of effective communication skills while being in a very large team. Also, there has been many opportunities for me to increase my technical skills with lots of internal training sessions as well as the professional qualification college days.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme a fair amount, it has taught me a lot about what it takes to be in my chosen career and how to really understand if this is the career for me. My team is really big so it can be easy to get lost however everyone is very friendly which can help you to be integrated quickly. It was not what I expected at all but nonetheless it is still enjoyable.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and it has been that way from the moment I joined during my induction all the way up until now where I am just over 6 months in. They are well structured in terms of the professional qualification and making sure that you pass your exams. Task delegation can sometimes be hard especially during COVID-19

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my employer, we are provided with many outlets of people to talk to e.g counsellor, buddy and an apprenticeship coach. We are encouraged to talk about any of our concerns whether small or large and they take in to consideration everything that you say. My mentors have been very useful in helping settle in and integrate into my team where possible.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There are a lot of avenues for support from the training provider when we are studying at college and in the time between going to college and our exams. They are available 7 days a week and until late during the week for any questions or if you have extenuating circumstances they are quite accommodating.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At the moment, for the first few exams it has not been particularly relevant to my specific service line however I can see the application of the knowledge being useful to build a foundation to pass the exams and also it's helpful to know if once I qualify I have the knowledge to change service line.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of social activities to get involved with but due to COVID they're all virtual. There are team socials every month and also the opportunity to join networks which have their own individual events. For example, the EY women's network, or EY black community etc. There are loads of different networks. I have not really attended any though but the opportunity is there to be social.
