As a Duty Manager, I am responsible for guest and team safety, guests satisfaction with experience, team engagement. Time to time needing to deal with crisis such as power cuts, first aid to team and guests. Taking care of some financial aspects and compliance. Organising team rotas to meet guests needs and ensure their have enough rest between shifts.
During Whitbread career, I have learnt new skills and behaviours. By showing good amount of curiosity I have learnt new operational procedures such as understanding P&L, new compliances, creating projects and speaking in public. I have better understanding how each aspect and area is related and how important is to make sure they are all looked after.
The apprenticeship programme gave me new opportunities to meet a whole bunch of interinsting people, I have discovered some new interest not only as a hobby, but also how can I relate my knowledge to my role on day to day basis. The programme it self is great, some of the topics more challenging, but worth every single minute spent on it.
My programme is very well structured. I was given a weekly plan and timeline by when each topic has to be completed. I have regular meetings with regional training, who is a great help to keep me on track, always approachable and supporting with any constructive feedback. Even during pandemic, my course was not affected in any way
I always get a support from my Deputy Hotel Manager, who is currently completed her apprenticeship too. My othe Deputy Hotel Manager always over look work which I done and give me constructive feedback and encouraging when I learn new skill. My Hotel manager is always on hand to explain other business and how can I change my ways of working
My current regional trainer is super approachable, well organised, knowledgeable and encouraging. I know that between pur sessions I can arrange a quick meeting and go through questions and answers. He always explains me well, what will be expectations from a next visit and towards of my end of point assessment
Learning new management styles and exploring behaviours helps me to deal with challanging situations, management changes and have more interaction with guests to seek for a feedback and provide relevant team with findings to improve future guests experience. Having good basis, I know that moving into my new role, I won't have surprises and will know how to overcome challenges
