  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role is very varied, from one day to another I could be conducting client workshops, modelling high quantities of data with excel or a power tool, or holding internal training sessions. Additionally we have time set aside for studies with ADA college, this is normally 1 week every 2 months and leaves us with coursework to complete

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have definitely both learnt new and developed existing skills, whilst these skills haven't been significantly technical, which is what I would prefer as a digital consultant, they have mainly been focused on and around around project management. This ultimately has involved both soft people skills and learning to use specific tools and systems

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find my degree programme quite frustrating, there is no time assigned outside of learning hours to complete coursework and prepare for exams. This always results in us being forced to take weekends and holidays to complete this work. It becomes quite overwhelming to have this level of work, especially when you are caught on busy project.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme seems very poorly organized. Going into year three requirements and guidelines are continually changing leading to a massive element of uncertainty. Most recently I have asked for a remark and more detailed coursework feedback, this was now nearly 2 months ago, and I am yet to have even a reply from ADA college. EY do not seem to be able to escalate this

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Not as much as we would hope for. At the moment support tends to come from apprentices in the year above us, the apprenticeship leadership team has had over 4 changes since we started and seems very unstable. We escalate issues that impact us and there seems to be a general response that we "complain too much". I wouldn't recommend this scheme to anyone in years below me

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Again not enough. To have requirements continually changing, especially in final year is somewhat disorientating. I would like to see better feedback to help us improve as we progress through the scheme, it is severely lacking at the moment and as highlighted previously I am currently struggling to get any response from them on more detailed feedback

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that ultimately the degree is more of a tick-box for future employers and as such getting the degree will be massively helpful and I am very grateful for this. The course has given me a great oversight and base knowledge for much of the work I do, it would be great to be given more opportunities to test and develop this knowledge in the workplace

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are multiple networks within EY for Faith, sports and other areas. These are open to all and run by individuals, I have participated in a few and they breed a great sense of community, this is an area that EY do well with and I actively encourage others to get involved

    10/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend EY for senior hires but not for those joining the apprentice scheme, it is poorly managed and the training provider is not fit for purpose. I feel that the culture in EY compared to other big 4 consultancies could improve, just with small details and a better focus around employees and their health

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I would say to make sure that EY is right for you and assess the entire marketplace. consider your lifestyle, whether you are prepared to work long hours and be travelling a lot. When with EY network internally as a lot depends on who you know and can significantly affect your work / life experience
