  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The first year of the apprenticeship is broken down into mainly training and also learning how the business is in general. The second and third year is more based on working on aircraft. We are put into four different placements across the second and third year which are four on four off shifts. On a daily basis we would work on aircraft and carry our maintenance, this could be anything from change an engine or even change a tyre on the aircraft.

  • I have really enjoyed my apprenticeship and cannot wait to finish the rest of my apprenticeship. I have enjoyed everything so far!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our programme has had many changes this year due to COVID unfortunately. We have been pulled from training a few times due to government guidelines but their has always been a plan b which has been executed on many occasions. I do thing the programme is organised from both my employer and training provider.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As a part of our apprenticeship we have to complete our training away from base meaning we do not see our employer for around 6 months, with this being a barrier we still received weekly meetings on teams which covered our welfare checks. The welfare checks was a key support received from our employer.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have our own individual assessor to help us keep track of our qualifications from Resource Group (training provider) this is key as they help us work towards our qualifications as we get a weekly reminder and progress update monthly. We also get support from the staff at resource group to help us work towards our qualifications.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training towards our qualification really does make a big difference towards our future role in engineering. Our training provider makes us get into the right mindset and sets the barriers high so our discipline and behaviours are in line with the industry we are working in. They also train us to the ability our employers require from us.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • From what I’m aware of I believe their is extra curricular actives that I can get involved in with work. I do not know much about this as we have currently been away until now in training. I will be looking into completing extra curricular activities at work in the future.

  • 9a. Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have had a good experience with British airways so far throughout my apprenticeship. The support and guidance I have received from work is very good. The training is intense but it is definitely worth it in the long run. This is why I would recommend it to my family and friends.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
  • I would suggest to get some hands on experience before starting training as it will boost your starting point when at the training providers centre. I would recommend to read up on the course in general and what it offers. Make sure you know the right information about the airline and the course you are applying for.
