My role is at Royal Preston Hospital, I work in Domestic Services Office. I am part of the admin team so do tasks like imputing information onto spreadsheets, scanning and saving files, taking phone calls. I also assist domestic staff who come to the office window and help them with their requests.
When I first started this apprenticeship I was very nervous about taking phone calls in the office. Now that I have been here for 2 months I can confidently take phone calls and have learnt how to take them in a professional manner. My IT skills have also improved from using a computer everyday.
I enjoy my programme a lot, I am very excited about learning new / different things in the office. I have regular meetings with my mentor at Blackpool Fyde College via teams and my mentor is lovely; always able to answer questions I have and happy to help me with anything.
My program is set up on the website One File, it is very organized and shows which assessments I have due and ones for the future. There are also score cards to help me see myself progressing in different areas of skills. My mentor and I have meetings about this too if I am ever unsure of anything.
My employer is very supportive, as well as my colleagues around me. Everyone is very welcoming and open to teach me new skills, for example helping out and finding out more knowledge about Domestic Services. My line manager even had a meeting about the future with me with my concerns for after the apprenticeship.
My training provider offers me lots of support. When we have our teams meetings to check my progress, he shows me any resources that can help me when completing my apprenticeships and has also given me several ways to contact him if I need anymore support. This makes me very grateful!
I believe that my qualification helps me in my job. Since I am studying Business Admin I can adapt any knowledge I know into my role, it helps me think outside the box when looking at NHS. I have been including NHS in my examples for my assessments to help me learn more about them.
One charity based event that Lancashire Teaching Hospitals are doing this year is a 7 mile walk across Morecambe beach. Since we work for them, me and a group of colleagues have decided to do this together. I am really looking forward to this event, especially because it is for a good cause.

The NHS is a large business with many different opportunities. There are lots of places for promotion and lots of different sites for you to work out. I am also really thankful I have managed to get an apprenticeship with NHS to, it is a really good place to start my career.
Make sure that you are a team worker and happy to help others. We also have a rule in our office where we share our knowledge with each other - there may be something you know that someone doesn't know and it could really help them in completing their job.
