I work in an administration style role, mainly working from home since the beginning of the pandemic, but before I was based at British Airways headquarters. A day can involve prepping and running meeting as well as supporting on both large and small scale events and projects, a day will also often include liaising and networking over email.
I have learnt many new skills both hard and soft skills, the skills that I have developed the most are in relation to using software such as excel and powerpoint as well as internal systems such as teams. I have also learnt how to act and interact in a professional environment.
I enjoy my programme as it allows me to develop my understanding of the business world as well as specifically the travel industry. Working near such a large hub for business and travel has given me the opportunity to get a real feel for international business and how it operates.
Our programme is broken down into four 6 month placements in different areas of the business. This has obviously not gone to plan due to covid but i have still managed to gain experience in different areas. The nvq includes 8 assignments as well as evidence you have to support each assignment with.
The company send out different emails to different emailing lists. My apprenticeships sits under people where we would receive monthly emails or before covid we could go to the directorate update meetings. We would have one to ones with our apprentice manager once a month to ensure we are on track and well.
For each assignment we will attend one workshop that offers information and support as well as a breakdown of what we need to achieve marks so that the assignments pass. We also have one to ones with our training provider so that they can offer additional help with regards to our course.
From personal experience I feel like it does not directly impact your behaviours and understanding of the current role although it keeps factors such as grammer and formal writing styles up to scratch, and also offers new techniques that may help you to achieve certain tasks in a smaller amount of time.
Covid has obviously impacted the offer of extra-curricular activities but from when i first started i can recall there being a Duke of Edinburgh gold being offered to apprentices as well as opportunity to participate in charity events for example i raised money for sport relief by doing a skydive.
Yes
As for someone that is interested in getting involved in business or travel, it is somewhere that can offer roles that lead to a very successful career and can also give you the chance to travel with work as well as work by the biggest airport in the United Kingdom
Make sure that you stand our to the interviewer they are looking for someone who is charismatic and someone that isn't afraid to stand out. They are not necessarily bothered if you are the most academic but someone who is able to add value to their department and the overall business.
