Business Insight Week Programme - We were split into different departments within PWC, I was placed into the Tax Team. My time within the team involved utilising my Microsoft Excel skills to work on real projects, interviewing employees to gain a greater insight into PWC and the opportunities available within their company.
I have gained a far greater understanding of how UK tax works and the necessary steps that people have to take when they leave/enter the UK regarding possible taxes. I have also improved upon my interaction skills in a business environment
The programme was a great insight into life at PWC. I was very impressed by the culture at PWC and the welcoming nature of all of the staff that I encountered. The opportunity to take on real client work was also great as I was actually getting hands on experience of working within an accountancy firm.
The 'buddies' that were assigned to us were very welcoming, and were always available to help us with our work. They also set up various opportunities for us to meet with Directors and Partners at the firm which was a great experience. Being given real client work highlighted the way in which we were valued and trusted by PWC and their employees during our time there.
The induction was a great chance to meet people on the programme from all over the UK and we received a detailed explanation of the week ahead and an insight into PWC as a firm. The programme was well structured and organised.
The buddies assigned to us were always available to advise us and checked in with us regularly throughout the day. There were also an abundance of other colleagues that we could ask for guidance at all points throughout the placement and they were more than happy to help.
All of the staff members that I encountered were enthusiastic in the help that they provided and it did not feel in any way an inconvenience to them.
PWC were generous in their salary and travel costs were suitably covered. The salary comfortably covered my travel and daily costs during my work experience.
Given that my placement was only a 1 week period, I was unable to attend any company events. However having spoken to PWC employees they spoke highly of the out of work opportunities and events that PWC offer.
Yes
The appealing company culture and high standards of the firm make it a great place to gain insight into accounting and the financial industry. There is also ample opportunity to progress during and after University
Showcase your interest in PWC during interviews and within your CV. Make sure that during interview you can draw upon past experiences when answering questions and demonstrate what you have learnt from them in your answers.
