Each day we would come into work and be taught in class in order to train for our exams. Starting at 8:30 we would come in ready to be instructed by qualified engineers. For the last part of the course, we were placed in the hangar and were given different aircraft to perform tasks on.
While at resource group I developed all of my handwork skills in the workshop and I feel I acquired various new skills during my time in the hangar working on aircraft. I feel my time in the hangar greatly prepared me for the experience of work coming in the future.
I feel my course had many good parts and bad parts. the social life was great, I met many new people, most of them being people I still talk to and I believe I made many good friends during my time. However, some of the instructors were not the best and many apprentices feel as though we were being treated unfairly a lot of the time.
I believe generally the course was well structured and would have been well structured if COVID hadn't appeared as this threw everything off and caused the whole course to have to be re-scheduled with many of our modules being taught over zoom which wasn't the best, by no fault of the instructors.
I believe received a great amount of support from my employer throughout my apprenticeship. with my coordinator managing my exam retakes and encouraging me to pass. I feel there are, however, some points where I may have needed some more support during exams but i do believe my employer was there when needed them most.
During our time at resource group, our training provider was generally very helpful. They were there to answer any questions we had about exams or about the course in general but because there were so many of us, i feel as though we didn't get the full amount of help we could have possibly needed.
In order to work as a licensed aircraft engineer, you must first pass your modules and gain the aircraft experienced required by the CAA so the qualification is absolutely required in order to perform the role of a licenced aircraft engineer. resource group did however make it easier to gain the experience as it is essentially a warm up.
There is only one extra curricular activity to get involved in that i know of and that is cycling which, unfortunately does not interest me. I have heard however that the social life pre COVID was great and people were having a great time with each other outside of work.
Yes
I believe Babcock is a great company to work for. I feel this way as I believe everyone is treated very equally and the atmosphere is very friendly, it doesn't matter someone's position in the company, they will always stop and have a chat if they see you and it makes you feel cared about.
Make sure you have some sort of similar experience. Show that you are interested in engineering and that to you, it wont just be a job to earn you money. Babcock looks for people that are genuinely interested in aircraft engineering and wants people to enjoy their work so they wont hire you if they don't think you will enjoy your time here.
