My experience at Ernst and Young has been very pleasant. It has a great culture focused on people and being able to be yourself. The social aspect of the job is great as they hire a lot of people from the same age range, and you progress through the company together.
I have learnt a lot about audit, accounting, insurance and the overall financial institution. It has inspired me to learn more about the stock market and other fundamentals that I previously had no knowledge it. I think the job has equipped me to go on to learn more and make a career out of it.
Whilst the programme is very challenging and the hours can be very long, especially during busy season, it is fun and the social aspect is definitely a big positive. The work itself can be quite boring but it does open up a lot of career opportunities for after you qualify.
It is very well organised. You get a buddy when you first start as well as a counsellor to go to when you have any work related issues. All exam related things are done through Kaplan and they are a very professional service that provides tuition and exams throughout the programme.
I receive as much support as I need. I have a counsellor that I can message or call at anytime who will help with any issues. I have an apprenticeship leader who is also there to discuss any issues related to work, exams or the apprenticeship in general. The support structure is very good.
The support is mostly given by a third party service called Kaplan. They are very professional and for each exam they provide in person college and tuition and they also host the exams. The college is done mostly by ex-accountants so their knowledge is top tier and they are very good tutors.
The exams themselves that I have done so far have a moderate amount of overlap with my job. I think as I progress through my job and the exams there will be more overlap but at the moment I learn a lot of stuff that I do not see in my job.
There is a group or social network for basically everything. There is religious sporting groups as well as a lot of work socials such as cocktail nights, pub quizzes and go karting. If there isn't a group that somebody wants, they can request it and usually it is formed.
Yes
EY is a great place to work and is heavily focused on having a people driven culture. Everybody that I know who has left the firm has said that the one thing they miss the most if the people. The work is hard but thats to be expected from a big 4 firm.
I would say prepared to work hard and to do long hours during busy season which is January through to March. But other than that come here if you want a fun place to work with lots of work friends and a big social side working up in the city.
