My role involves client work, college and internal training. There is a good mix of all three of these making each day different and interesting. My day to day client work involves completing tax computations for companies paying corporate tax, however there is also chances to get involves with other work such as tax audits and different projects.
I have developed my technology skills by being introduced to new soft wares and programmes, I have learnt a lot of new tax technical skills directly linked to my role, as well as this this I have also developed social skills through working with different people and also key client skills.
I am currently enjoying the programme which I am on as it allows me to learnt while also working, this mix allows me to apply the knowledge I have learnt at college and also develop it further by applying it to client situations throughout my work, it also gives a variety making each week interesting.
The programme which I am on is very well structured, from starting in September I have been given key contacts for each part of my apprenticeship (internal training, college and client work), there is also a lot of information provided which has helped guide my through the first six months. Overall there is a lot of support and organisation.
There is a lot of support from my employer as there is a lot of key information available regarding my apprenticeship. When joining I was given a buddy and a counsellor, both of which I could reach out to when I needed anything, there are also regular meetings to check on how you are doing and progressing.
There is a lot of support from my training provider as there are multiple resources available online which have helped me when studying towards my professional qualifications. There are also tutors for each course who you can reach out to if you need anything explained further or some extra support.
My professional qualification has allowed me to gain the basic knowledge and skills which I need to be able to complete my day to day job which is fundamental to be able to progress and gain an even better understanding when putting this knowledge to practise in actual client situations.
There are plenty of extra curricular activities available, including volunteering to help out with recruiting events, mentoring and a range of different networks that you can join. There also usually social and sporting activities to get involved with, these extra curricular activities aren't limited to one office so allow you to develop your network.
Yes
I would recommend EY to a friend as it is a great place to work and gives you all the support you need to be able to work towards your professional qualification and complete your apprenticeship as well as allowing you to work while you learn. It is also a very welcoming firm ensuring everyone feels like part of a team.
I would advise people applying to make sure they have some knowledge on the firm itself and all the service lines so that you can apply to the one that best matches and interests you the most. I would also recommend trying to get apply for the work experience and attend the recruitment events available.
