  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of organising staff, ensuring there is a weekly schedule, completing Risk Assessments and Method Statements, ensuring that all the members of staff have fully up to date training records and licenses for the necessary jobs. I am also part of project planning and completion for different customers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many skills, for example my confidence when talking to customers and clients, improving my communication skills, I have also improved on my attention ion to detail and ensuring that I have completed my job as thoroughly as possible. Finally I am developing my ability to problem solve and work under pressure.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy learning new theories and topics taught in the programme, with the current circumstances and not being able to work with other students in a more collaborative environment this has impacted enjoyment however I still find the theory engaging and interesting but difficult at times to focus with working at a screen.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured and organised, especially considering the unpredictable circumstances, we get a clear timetable and planner of lectures and deadlines at the beginning of the year and we are informed regularly of any changes . However it can become more confusing when we start a new module before finishing the previous

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • my employer provides sufficient support for me to complete work however there are times when work becomes busy and I am required to work longer hours which cam impact on the amount of time available to complete assignments. This is balanced though as I am compensated with additional time if required

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is supportive and actively arranges meetings to ensure that I am up to date and coping with my assignments as well as having an open discussion if I don't understand something or have any questions, he also speaks to my workplace mentor to ensure that I am getting the required support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as though my qualification is extremely helpful with my role as a junior project manager, for example theories such as the accounting and finance module allowed me to gain a better understanding of the financial side of my role, also the HR modules and organisational structures I have found to be extremely applicable.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There aren't currently any extra-curricular activities to get involved in at my workplace this is partly due to the current circumstances and being limited to social activities but also the size of the company being much smaller limits such activities. There are annual social activities such as work meals at Christmas.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend working for HOWPOW to a friend as there is an opportunity to learn a trade, gaining a qualification as well as accelerating their experience within the renewable energy industry, working on projects all over the country. There are many opportunities to climb the ladder within the company.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nottingham Trent University?
  • Tips or advice that I would give to others applying to this company would be, always show initiative in progressing themselves, show team spirit and willingness to work for each other and most importantly a drive to work hard. Also have a goal or direction in mind that you want your time with the company to lead to
