  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role within Virgin Media is a planner in a network expansion team. This involves planning fibre routes and conversing with stakeholders regarding the costs, timings, routes and various order related queries. My responsibilities rely solely on completing my daily tasks within my team and keeping our targets progressing positively.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've developed a lot of skills regarding communication and working as a team. As well as this, I've learnt a lot of basic IT skills and ways of working from home in a computerised environment. Working within a close net team has also boosted my confidence.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far so good with my current programme as the help from my manager and team as got me to reach the best of my abilities at this given time. It was nice to come into a well organised and welcoming environment.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • From day one, various training calls and documents were handed out. Everything we needed was given to us as well as any help we needed getting started in our training.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Continuous support is provided from my employer and team in regards to one-to-one calls, screen shared help with a task or even just a friendly phone call, especially when working from home. The general attitude for help is very positive and I always feel like they have the time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • During the qualification, help is there when we need it. We have regular calls with mentors, managers and other apprentices to gain all sorts of support. It's a very self driven qualification, meaning you drive your learning and if this includes getting support, you arrange this support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • For me, my qualification is in Project Management and my job role with in Planning. The elements that match up to help me perform better, are the planning skills in the roles, the skills in conversing with stakeholders, slight bits of budgeting and team work skills. Other than these, the roles are fairly different.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have virtual apprentices activities such as quizzes, a social virtual drink past 5pm on Thursdays and since starting, occasional network event. The company have done what they can in a virtual environment.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Virgin Media O2 to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company has good morals and really looks after its staff. The benefits are good, and the pay is very good for an apprenticeship. You get a god amount of holiday, an within my office role bank holidays as well! There isn't a big hierarchy feel to the company which makes me feel ever so welcome to contact whoever I need to.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Virgin Media O2?
  • Read up about the company, read the values and learn about the role you want to apply for, if you like everything about it, then simply apply! If you're looking for a warm, welcoming and giving company with very well known positive name, then apply :)
