Assisting my General Manager with the running of our site. This includes managing staff and creating rotas, ordering stock and completing stock takes, processing finances and banking cash, ensuring all documents are completed in line with legislative requirements (such as cleaning schedules and cooking temperatures), dealing with customer queries and creating highest standards of customer satisfaction.
Learnt managerial skills as this is my first role as a manager, such as how to motivate staff and maximise productivity whilst driving sales. Took charge of staff meetings, conducted interviews and provided induction training to new staff members. Also learnt how to process finances and bank the cash and received training to work in the kitchen. Developed skills in stock taking and customer service.
I enjoy doing research and using my learning to create detailed answers to questions regarding the modules and my job role. My one to one meetings are helpful and I am able to learn, ask questions and take notes. Big Learning is also good to complete self study. I sometimes struggle to keep up with my off job training hours.
Learning is split into modules so it is easier to digest and has a better structure. Sometimes I have found that some modules overlap previous ones which can be confusing but not really an issue. The only thing is I don’t know how much preparation I will get for my exams in terms of mock papers/practice presentations which makes me nervous.
I did receive more support when I was at work, but not as much whilst being on furlough (which I am currently) as we aren’t in direct contact everyday, which is understandable. I can still message my manager if I have any questions or need any sort of help without hesitation.
I receive lots of support from my training provider when working towards my qualification. I can email her with any queries and questions in between meetings and she will always get back to me promptly. I can also freely ask questions when completing my one to one sessions if there is anything I don’t fully understand.
My learning through completing my qualification helps me in my job role as it helps me learn in depth about different management styles, when they are appropriate and what effect they have on staff, in order to achieve the best outcomes. I also have expanded my knowledge on legislation relevant to my job role.
In current times there are no social gatherings due to social distancing regulations. However, I have been invited over email to a virtual zoom event where we can receive company updates and have the opportunity to ask any questions we may have. Pre-COVID, we would have annual staff Christmas parties with our team, regular term meetings and I would attend ‘patch meetings’ to discuss with other site managers how they are getting on with any changes (such as new menus) and discuss areas of success and improvement.

Elior offers lots of training and promotional opportunities which is great for people who want to gain experience and qualifications. Elior is also a trusted brand so we can feel a sense of job security. They also offer help and support if needed such as our HR helpline which can give advice on any queries when needed.
Go above and beyond in the role you are in because they often offer great promotional opportunities to people who do this. Also, take every opportunity they give you for training possibilities as they offer a wide range of courses which are fully funded and expenses paid, such as latte art or customer service to expand your skills.
