I am an audit associate. When on audit, my daily tasks consist of completing different testing sections. However, on occasions, I am also in the office. Following this, my tasks are much more varied, but are still related to bits I would be doing when I am out at a client. My common interactions are with colleagues and clients.
I am currently doing AAT level 3. I have also learnt lots of skills while working, and been on Grant Thornton internal training courses at their training centre.
I really enjoy my job. It is challenging, but the support is there when it is needed. I get on well with everyone I have met, and have met some really great people. It has exceeded the expectations I had before I started.
For someone who only started in August, I have already been given lots of very useful and challenging tasks. This has made me feel very well valued, by the people who I work with.
The organisation is great. There is a set programme, and you are easily able to see what is coming up next in relation to studies and work.
I do my studies at Kaplan college. Here I receive lots of support from my tutor, who will always answer any questions you may have.
Each starter has a people manager and a buddy who they can go to with questions. These people are always willing to help. Also, on every job, people are willing to help with tasks you have been set, which aids development hugely.
I currently live at home, so my costs aren't very high, so my salary is sufficient. However it would be much harder to live on your own and do this job, as the salary wouldn't stretch far enough. I live and work in Cambridge.
There are often events going on. Since starting I have taken part in 5 aside football, a boat party and a Christmas party. There are more events coming up.
Yes
It is a great place to work. I have met a lot of very nice people, who are always willing to help and aid your development. They stretch you, but never make you feel overwhelmed. The training programme is well organised, and the study centre (Kaplan) is very good.
Make sure you have a range of work experience. Be confident, and make it clear that you are very keen to join Grant Thornton. Also, research into the company and make sure it is the right place for you before applying.
